Order your Repeat Prescriptions Online

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in any of the following ways:

  • Online via patient access or the NHS App.  This is the preferred option and is available for ordering medication 24 hours a day.  See below on how to set this up.
  • Post the request through the front door.
  • Post.
  • Telephone 01386 561143 Monday to Friday 9.00am - 12.00pm (midday).  We would be grateful if you only telephone for a repeat prescription if you are frail, elderly, housebound or have no internet access.

Please allow 7 working days’ notice for your prescription to be processed (this excludes weekends and bank holidays).  Please state where you wish to collect from each time you request a repeat prescription.

      Free Home Delivery Service

We are pleased to let you know that we are offering a free delivery service to all of our dispensing patients.  We deliver Monday-Friday.

If you pay for your medication and are a dispensing patient, please click here for details on how to make payment of your prescription charge. Payment is to be made in advance of the prescription being delivered.  Please Note: This is for patients we dispense to only.  If you have your medication delivered by another pharmacy, your current payment methods still stand.

Please be advised that prescriptions are currently taking 7 working days to process.   Please do not phone the surgery to find out when your prescription may be delivered.  If you are not likely to be at home to accept the delivery and have not already nominated a safe place and have a safe place where your medication can be left (out of sight from the public, out of reach of children and animals), then please complete a nomination form.

Please be assured that we have plenty of medication in stock and we would be grateful if you did not over order.  This will ensure that all patients have the medication that they need.

      Online Ordering Of Prescriptions

Online ordering of prescriptions is available via our clinical system, which interacts with your medical records and is a safer and more secure way of ordering prescriptions.  You must be aged 16 or over to be able to use this system.  Parents with parental responsibility can request access to order prescriptions up to the age of 11 where access will be automatically removed.

To arrange online access to order your repeat prescriptions, please contact reception on 01386 552424 with a contact number and email address and reception will arrange for the IT department to contact you.

Alternatively, you may wish to sign up to the NHS app - for more details visit https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/nhs-services/the-nhs-app/

Once you have your registration details, click the link at the top of the page to access repeat prescriptions online.

      Electronic Prescriptions

Electronic prescriptions enable the GP to send an electronic prescription directly to your nominated pharmacy rather than printing a paper copy.  Once you have nominated a pharmacy, all your prescriptions will be automatically sent electronically to that pharmacy unless you inform us otherwise.

To nominate a pharmacy, please speak to your pharmacist to set this up.

Our dispensary is available for all our registered patients who live more than one mile from the nearest chemist (this is to comply with NHS regulations). It is also available to all temporary residents. Our dispensary staff are happy to help out with any queries you may have and will dispose of any unused or out-of-date medication that we have dispensed.

      Opening Times

Access to the dispensary team is 08:30 to 18:30 Monday to Friday.

Our dispensary manager, Michelle Stewart is available to answer any queries that you may have regarding your medicines. You can book an appointment at reception or ask in the dispensary. When Michelle is not available our dispensers will be happy to answer your queries.

      Monitored Dosing System

To assist patients who experience difficulty in taking their medicine correctly, we can provide a daily dosing system.  Please enquire at Dispensary and they can arrange an assessment.

      Returning Sharps boxes

Regrettably, we can only accept sharps boxes that we have dispensed and have been securely closed.

Out of date or unused medicines

If you have any out of date or unused medicines please return to the dispensing chemist for safe disposal.

      Rules For Prescribing

The NHS recognises that 28-day repeat prescribing makes the best possible balance between patient convenience, good medical practice and minimal drug wastage.

The British Medical Association notes that 'Prescribing intervals should be in line with the medically appropriate needs of the patient, taking into account the need to safeguard NHS resources, patient convenience and the dangers of excess drugs in the home’.

The benefits of 28-day prescribing include:

      • Reducing the amount of medicine currently wasted.
      • Reducing the potential for error when it’s changed in the middle of supply.
      • Increased safety as you will not have multiple containers of the same medicine.
      • Many medicines are supplied in 28-day ‘calendar packs’ that show the days of the week.
